Wickham Market Village Hall has needed upgrading for years, and along comes a pandemic that has provided an even greater reason to improve its facilities, for example, providing hot water for handwashing in our kitchens and toilets. Up to now there has been no hot water in any of our toilets!

We are pleased to announce that, thanks to the generosity of East Suffolk Council, the Hall has secured a “Bounce Back” grant that has enabled it to install a modern hot water system. Work has just completed.

This improvement is unrelated to our developing plans to refurbish the Hall, but a useful step in the right direction. It follows on from our having had the Village Hall decorated throughout during the Autumn. It now has a much fresher look.

We are now looking forward to the easing of lockdown measures so that we can welcome groups, societies and organisations to use the Hall once more.  For more information please contact our Chairman, Philip Tallent, on 01728 746058.

The Village Hall is now back in lockdown. No events may take place and no-one may hire the hall for the forseeable future. For the time being we have removed the diary from this website.

If you wish to make enquiries about hiring the hall in the future, please contact the Lettings Secretary Sue French on 07562 213860 or by email at .

Covid Level 4

Once again we regret that the Village Hall is now closed to all groups and activities owing to the spread of the coronavirus within Suffolk.

Keep tuned for further announcements from the Government. In the meanwhile, we hope you have a very peaceful Christmas.

Lockdown ends, again

We are out of lockdown on 2nd December, and may start taking bookings again. If you are ready, then so are we! Just contact our Lettings Secretary, Sue, on 07562 213860.

Stop Press – New Build becomes “Refurb”

Recently the New Build working group met and agreed that because of the financial crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic there was very little prospect of being able to raise the £1.5 million needed to rebuild the Village Hall for several years.

They recommended a refurbishment programme instead. This course of action has now been agreed by the Village Hall Trustees and by Wickham Market Parish Council.  Philip Tallent, Chairman of Wickham Market Village Hall, said, “We will now look at all the refurbishment possibilities for the village hall and establish priorities that meet the needs of the users of our hall.  All individuals and groups who have donated to the New Build project will be asked whether they are happy for their donation to be used for refurbishment.”

For more information, please see our Refurb project page.

Back in Lockdown

Well, we are back in Lockdown again, at least until 2nd December 2020.  This means the Village Hall is now closed again for this period.

As soon as we can take bookings again, we will let you know.  Until then, stay safe everyone.

Hall re-opened 1st September 2020

Great News!  The Village Hall re-opened its doors to all users on 1st September.  There are special measures in place to help guard against the spread of COVID-19, with hand sanitising points, hygiene and social distancing information in place.  Also the Hall has been freshly decorated to welcome you back.

Over the next few months organisations will be making arrangements to return to their regular sessions, and individual applicants are invited to hire the Hall again by contacting our Lettings Secretary, Sue French, on 07562 213860 or by email to

Do come back. We’d love to see you.

Coronavirus pandemic

As with all Village Halls and other public spaces, Wickham Market Village Hall is not open for any meetings, events or other gatherings at present. We await news from Central Government as to next steps, but regrettably in the meanwhile our doors remain closed.

However we have taken the opportunity to have the Hall redecorated.  Leaks in the flat roofs, particularly over the main foyer, have been repaired.  The foyer itself, together with the main hall, back room, bar area, toilets and kitchens have all had a fresh coat of paint.  They will be ready to welcome our customers as soon as we have permission to re-open. We are sure that you will be delighted with the outcome.
